Kakhaber Onasvili - Georgia

Kakhaber Onashvili was born on September 28, 1972. From 1981 to 1986, he graduated from Choral Music School No. 28 named after Zurab Anjaparidze. Between 1986 and 1990, he studied at the Meliton Balanchivadze Music College, majoring in choral conducting. From 1991 to 1996, he attended the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory, specializing in choral conducting.
 Maestro Kakhaber Onashvili has worked with Georgia’s leading creative ensembles. From 1991 to 1993, he was a singer with the Georgian State Choir Chapel named after N. Sulkhanishvili. Between 1993 and 1995, he worked as a teacher at the House of Georgian Folk Music. From 1999 to 2006, he was a soloist with the Georgian State Academic Ensemble of Folk Song and Dance "Rustavi." From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a soloist with the "Suliko" ensemble and was assigned to the Zakaria Paliashvili Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater. From 2010 to 2015, he served as the conductor and artistic director of the folk music ensemble "Mtskheta" at the main House of Culture in the city of Mtskheta. Since 1993, he has been the Artistic Director and Conductor of the folk music ensemble “Mdzlevari.”

 The ensemble was founded in 1994 by Tariel and Kakhaber Onashvili, soloists of the legendary "Rustavi" choir, recipients of awards from the Government of Georgia, and acclaimed performers and experts in Georgian folk song traditions.The ensemble's repertoire includes Georgian folk song and dance compositions (lyrical, ritual, and work songs), sacred chants, melodious hymns from various regions of Georgia, and classical pieces."Mdzlevari" presents the richness of Georgian vocal culture to audiences around the world. The choir regularly performs both in Georgia and internationally and has recorded concerts for radio and television. Over the years, the choir has won numerous awards and titles at international competitions and festivals.The ensemble has repeatedly participated in the Moscow Easter Festival and is a regular participant in the project "Together in the 21st Century" under the patronage of the Sustainable Development of Bulgaria Foundation. Kakhaber Onashvili is the artistic director of this international project and conducts numerous masterclasses in Georgia and abroad to promote Georgian polyphonic singing, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.The ensemble has released several audio albums, a video album, and a number of music videos, showcasing parts of their rich repertoire, which includes both folk songs and sacred chants from various regions of Georgia.
